A 74-hectares site situated at the heart of the City of Singapore. A world class scientific institution used for both conservation and education . The cultural landscape includes a rich variety of historic features, plantings and buildings that demonstrate the development of the garden since its creation in 1859. It has been an important center for science, research and plant conservation, notably in connection with the cultivation of rubber plantations in SEA since 1875.
The Singapore Botanical Gardens has been inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site at the 39th session of the World Heritage Committee in Germany, Bonn in July 2015. The Gardens is the first and only tropical botanical garden on their World Heritage List. It is the 1st in Asia and 3rd botanical gardens inscribed in the world following Orto Botanico di Padova and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
