Message from Our President

“The seeds of today become the flowers of tomorrow. All we have for tomorrow comes from what we do today.”

We celebrated Hari Raya Aidilfitri in the month of July with a special program called “Boenga
Raya
” with guest demonstratore
Mrs. Anna Kwan from II Singapore Chapter 135 who did a splendid job.

Boenga Raya” was our Membership Drive for the year 2016/17, but unlike our bumper year last year, we didn’t have any new members signing up.  I will be very happy to receive feedback from members for discussion on how we manage our membership - it is an important conversation for us to have as we work together to ensure that our chapter continues to be a thriving and viable organization.

In September we were part of Iskarnival Kreativ Festival at the Mall of Medini, Iskandar Puteri to showcase an Ikebana exhibition inspired by the culture and botanic material of Johor. This is a first for us exhibiting in an art gallery and an acknowledgement of our chapter's pioneering work in Johor's creative arts scene.

For our next event, Mrs. Serena Ho from Kuala Lumpur, a veteran in Ikenobo Ikebana and western floral art will bring us “Ikenobo at Home”. Please do your booking early for this interesting program.

Friendship Through Flowers,

Datin Ong Kid Ching

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING , 28 MAY, 2016

President Ong Kid Ching in her address said: "I am glad to be able to report to you today that our chapter is not only alive but thriving. Although we had all together only 5 programs in the past year, every one was unique. All were well attended and warmly received by all present. From the very first Membership Drive held in July 2015 to the very last Annual Event held in April 2016 the Chapter had received high praises. We achieved a record of having 12 new members and introducing a new school, Shofu Ryu for the enjoyment of our members."

Gifts were exchanged between President Kid Ching and the board members and a few members received a gift of appreciation for their dedication in attending all the programmes during the fiscal year.

BOENGA RAYA  , 12 JULY, 2016

It was a beautiful afternoon. The wives of the Consul General of Singapore and Indonesia were guests of our Chapter together with more than 20 guests and members from Singapore Chapter 135 making up the appreciative audience. Most came in Malay attire befitting the occasion and enjoyed local cuisine at this heritage location.

Mrs. Anna Kwan from II Singapore Chapter 135 provided a beautiful and elegant demonstration with her choice of beautiful materials. She was quick and decisive in the use of her chosen materials putting them into the vessels of her choice. Every arrangement received enthusiastic applause from the audience.

The finale was the pinnacle of the event Anna used a ‘tortured willow’ branch creating the most magnificent piece of the afternoon ‘wowing’ all present. Fellow Singapore chapter member Bernard Tay provided insights and commentary as she created her arrangements.

JOHOR IN BLOOM, 17 + 18 SEPTEMBER , 2016

Our chapter was invited to participate in Iskarnival Kreatif, a festival jointly organised by Khazanah Nasional, UEM Sunrise and Iskandar Investment, which highlights arts, culture and creativity, by staging an exhibition titled 'Johor in Bloom'.

Twenty of our members prepared arrangements from the Sogetsu and Ohara school for the enjoyment of a reported 20,000 attendees to the two day event. This was great exposure for our chapter to the many visitors who enjoyed the floral art along with visual, fashion, digital and performance art that was also on display.

This was our first opportunity to exhibit in an art gallery at the recently opened White Box at Medini Mall. The gallery space was decorated with large images of out chapter's activities and members creating their floral art. A leaflet specially created for the event was available to all the visitors interested in learning more about what we do.
